I believe this movie was made in the 60's.  I was very young but I remember a scene that an ailing woman is trying to get home but is hallucinating - seeing people with no faces.  A man takes her to his sub-floor apartment with the intention of helping her but she thinks he wants to hurt her.  She climbs up on her cot to "defend" herself from him and kicks his eye with her stiletto heel.  She makes a run for it, gets better and returns to him, who is now whereing an eye patch, I guess to apologize and thank him.  She ends up marrying him.  Anyone remember this flick or the title?
