The first that comes to mind is Driving Miss Daisy. Seriously, that year (1989) produced a slew of other worthy films including Field of Dreams, Dead Poet's Society, and the not-even-nominated-for-some-stupid-reason Glory.

Driving Miss Daisy is any enjoyable film, but nothing to write home about other than some fine performances.

Titanic was awesome. Most overrated = Forrest Gump. Good movie, but the best that year was Shawshank Redemption. And Chicago was just plain awful.

Definitely "Silence of the Lambs" which had the most ridiculous ending. Jody Foster, the cop should have known at once where Anthoy Hopkins would be because she knew or should have known or could have found out where the victim was going. She could have called the local police and had old Hannibal arressted.  That stupid oversight spoiled the film for me.

"Titantic" - The ship itself was a glorious leading actor. The story was trite and I had to stop myself from laughing out loud when the villain chases diCaprio to shoot him while the ship is sinking. The first thought of any human being is to preserve his life. He would have left di Caprio to drown on the Titanic and jumped overboard to get into one of the lifeboats.
